The Process

Your journey begins with an initial consultation where we chat through your ideas for your dress, explore styles and fabric options, and discuss any thoughts or questions you may have. At this appointment I'll also take your measurements.

After our first meeting I'll start sketching your dress. Depending on what we've discussed I may present a few design options for you to chose from. Once you're happy with the final design, I'll begin drafting the pattern.

The next stage is the toile - a mock-up of the dress made in a plain, inexpensive fabric. This step is essential for perfecting both fit and shape and allows you to see the design come to life and request any changes before I cut into the final fabric. I like the fit and shape to be as close to perfect as possible before moving on from the toile so there may be two or sometimes three toile-fittings.

Throughout this process we'll be reviewing fabric samples together. Once the fit and style are finalised I'll calculate the exact amount of fabric required and order your chosen materials.

Your dress is then made in the final fabric. Depending on the style and complexity, a further two to three fittings may be needed to refine the details and ensure everything is flawless before your dress is complete.

If attending multiple fittings feels difficult due to time, distance or other commitments, please don't worry. I'm always happy to discuss flexible options and how we can make the process manageable for you while still achieving a beautiful result.
